Flee as Birds to Their Mountains is a photographic essay film inspired by the artworks of children from Scampia, Naples. Inside the MOSS Museum—the first museum in Scampia—I encountered installations where children filled wooden boxes with personal objects: a pencil, a broken flute, a football keychain, and a book. Alongside them were handwritten sentences full of hope, love, and passion.
Through these fragments, the children revealed their dreams and resilience in a community often defined by hardship. Their words—about friendship, passion, and belief—resonated across cultures and reminded me of the enduring power of imagination. This project captures how light, hope, and innocence rise from Scampia’s difficult past, and how its young generation, like birds, will one day fly to their mountains.
