Storytelling Installation
Brown paper, hemp rope, mp3, paper tape.
In this project, I’d love to go back to texts, the most powerful medium I found after 4 years of digital media study.
Regarding diaries, I have a lot of stories to tell. But I’ve picked three important figures’ stories from my mom’s diary and my diary to share in this project.
One is my mother — She wrote so much about me, from my birth to my adolescence. Another one is my grandmom — She doesn’t read or write. But I wrote about her, so did my mom. The final figure is me — I appear in most of my mom and grandma’s stories. And who am I for them? I might be a dream for my “young” mom and grandmom.
I went back to my mom’s diary and my diary and reviewed what was going on in those texts, about the connections and bonds between us, three generations of women. In the meantime, I wrote down some stories about my mom and grandma that I remember most clearly from my childhood to adolescence.
As someone with a very poor memory, I believe that the moments still vivid enough to remain in my mind are more than just memories—they are rare and precious treasures, meant to be savored forever.
